Polls are open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. for the primary run-off races in Tarrant County. The Fort Worth Report is following two key races today: the Republican runoff for district attorney and the GOP runoff for Texas House District 93.
Races we’re following
The district attorney race has Matt Krause, R-Fort Worth, against Tarrant County Criminal Court No. 10 Judge Phil Sorrells. Sorrells had a 10% lead against Krause in the first race, but TCU political science professor James Riddlesperger previously told the Report it’s still anyone’s race.
In the primary race, 118,622 people voted. Of those votes, Sorrells secured 48,026 and Krause received 36,711. The remaining votes went to candidate Mollee Westfall.
The candidates are both conservative and share similar views on issues, but the biggest clash between the pair has come down to the role the district attorney should play.
For Krause, the office is more about policy now, which he said makes him an ideal candidate.
But Sorrells has a more traditional view on the office and said it’s about dealing with crime and keeping the community safe.
In the District 93 race, Nate Schatzline, a first-time candidate and operations director for an anti-human trafficking group, is up against former Southlake mayor Laura Hill. In the initial race, Schatzline garnered 43.6% of the vote in the three-way race against Hill, who earned 36.5% of the vote.
University of Texas at Arlington political science professor Allan Saxe previously told the Report that Schatzline is a more right-leaning candidate with support from several area conservatives. Hill is more of an establishment candidate with traditional Republican support, he said.
