For Fort Worth resident Tyrone Miller, 38, a haircut offers a better outlook on life.

“I was scruffy. When he cut my hair, I felt good. I looked good,” Miller said from inside Clean Up USA’s barbershop bus. “It’s been excellent.”

Nonprofit organization Clean Up USA hosts free haircut days, free clothing days and food pantries in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Every Tuesday, the organization is stationed in Fort Worth at various locations.

The bus was stationed Sept. 6 outside of Never the Less Always the More Ministries, 1136 E. Vickery Blvd., where volunteers give away food to houseless people.

Organization founder Jordan Allsup began cutting hair in March 2020.

“I prayed for a long time for God to send a barber,” Allsup said. “He sent me a pair of clippers.”

Allsup said he gave over 1,000 haircuts in 2021.

Volunteer coordinator Debbie Arnold said the organization doesn’t go to a destination unless it is invited.

Haircuts inside the barber shop bus are free of charge and serve as an example of Allsup’s mission to serve the community. Some days, Allsup drives the clothing bus around. Other days, he drives his own home, a recreational vehicle, and lets homeless people shower in it, he said.

“I pray every day that God gives me the skills and the ability to serve my neighbors and give my neighbors the grace to receive whatever I can give them.”
