Wallbox (NYSE:WBX), a provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging and energy management solutions worldwide, on Oct. 27, opened its first North American manufacturing facility in Arlington.
Designed to produce over 250,000 units in 2022 and over one million in 2030, the 130,000-square-foot factory will manufacture all of the company’s chargers for the U.S. and serve multiple segments of the EV charging market, including:
- Home charging
- Bidirectional charging for energy management and emergency relief
- Hyperfast highway corridor charging
The $70 million manufacturing facility is expected to double the local workforce over the next 12 months and bring 250 jobs to the Arlington area by 2025 and about 700 by 2030.
“Today, only 3% of the chargers required globally for the next decade have been installed, showing the magnitude of the need for innovative and reliable charging solutions,” said Enric Asunción, CEO of Wallbox in a news release. “Bringing Wallbox’s manufacturing capabilities to the U.S. significantly bolsters our ability to meet U.S. needs, deliver to public funding programs and drive the energy transition.”
The Arlington facility, located in the Great Southwest Industrial District, currently produces the company’s Pulsar Plus, a smart home EV charger. In 2023, the factory is expected to begin the production of Hypernova, an ultrafast EV charger that will fully charge a vehicle in under 15 minutes.
Wallbox, based in Barcelona with its U.S. operations in Mountain View, California, is contributing $30,000 to start the Wallbox Endowed Scholarship at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth. The scholarship will provide financial aid to a different TCC student each year, in perpetuity (beginning in 2025).
