Working at the Fort Worth Report has been a joy and a fulfilling learning experience. I’ve written and handled stories from every beat and through that I have met wonderful people – and animals. My favorite story this year is “‘That’s a horse!’ Fort Worth is home to the world’s tallest dog – Zeus”.
Zeus is a 3-year-old American Great Dane that lives here in Fort Worth. He is the world’s tallest living dog, measuring in at 3 feet, 7 inches tall.
He sleeps on a queen bed, drinks straight from the sink and has his own personal Love-sac in the living room. He loves peanut butter and his favorite toy is a squishy hedgehog.
The best part about this story is that I got to meet Zeus in person. Photojournalist Cristian ArguetaSoto and I were able to meet Zeus and his human grandfather out during the Stockyards cattle drive, where I witnessed the Zeus fandom.
Some people knew who Zeus was right away and started snapping photos, but most people were intrigued by his gargantuan size and calm demeanor and came right up to pet him. When they found out he was the world’s tallest dog, the questions were inevitable.
My favorite part of the day was watching Zeus come face-to-face with a longhorn, which he could almost meet at eye-level.
Zeus and his family made writing this article so easy and fun with personable interviews and hilarious photographs that I still look at today. I love to tell people I got to meet the world’s tallest dog!
