Valeria Nevárez, 22, has filed to attempt to unseat Quinton Phillips in the Fort Worth ISD District 3 board of trustees race.
Nevárez has lived in the district for one year and is a property manager, according to her campaign filing. She is one of the activists who protested the sex education curriculum in Fort Worth ISD at recent school board meetings.
The district represents east Fort Worth, including the historic Stop Six community. Quinton Phillips has served on the board since 2019.
Election Day is May 6 and early voting starts April 24.
Fort Worth ISD board members are elected in single-member districts. They serve four-year terms. The seats for Districts 2, 5 and 6 also are set for the election.
Candidates have until Feb. 17 to file for a place on the ballot.
