Mar’Tayshia James is entering the race for the Fort Worth ISD school board District 3 spot. She faces incumbent Quinton Phillips, who was elected in 2019, and Valeria Nevárez.

The former city council candidate is president of the Echo Heights Environmental Coalition. James, 27, is a counselor restorative and has lived in the district for 18 years, according to her campaign filing.

She posted a screenshot of the district website after she filed with the caption, “It is officially official.”

She ran for city council District 5 in May 2021 and lost to Gyna Bivens.

Election Day is May 6 and early voting starts April 24.

Fort Worth ISD board members are elected in single-member districts. They serve four-year terms. The seats for Districts 2, 5 and 6 also are set for the election.

Candidates have until Feb. 17 to file for a place on the ballot.
