A first-time candidate is seeking to knock off an incumbent on the Tarrant County College board of trustees.

Homemaker Mary E. Garza filed Feb. 17 to run for the District 5 seat on the TCC board. She joined Jabranica Stroba in challenging trustee Leonard Hornsby.

Election Day is May 6. Early voting begins April 24 and ends May 2. The last day to register to vote is April 6.

TCC District 5 covers southeast Tarrant County and includes south Arlington, Mansfield and Grand Prairie.

Garza, 56, has lived in Grand Prairie for more than 30 years.

Hornsby is an incumbent who was appointed to the seat in 2021 and was elected to fill the remainder of an unexpired term.

The District 4 seat on the TCC board is slated for the May ballot, too, and has four candidates vying for it. Trustees are elected to four-year terms and serve in single-member districts.
