The University of Texas at Arlington has selected Lowell Kent Davis as the next vice president of student affairs. Since 2021, Davis has served as vice chancellor for student affairs at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

“Dr. Lowell Davis has the experience and strategic leadership that matches UTA’s commitment to student success and access,” said Tamara Brown, UTA provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. “He is an accomplished student affairs leader and an educator who will help lead UTA to achieving higher levels of excellence in supporting our students and helping them achieve success in the classroom, on campus and beyond.”

Davis’ career in higher education has included service as:

associate vice chancellor for academic affairs and student success at Western Carolina University
director of new student and parent programs, then assistant dean of students and assistant to the vice provost for academic affairs at the University of Alabama
associate instructor at Indiana University and project associate for its Center for Postsecondary Research
assistant professor and assistant director of student activities at Hampton University
Additionally, he was an American Council on Education fellow from 2018-19 at the University of California, Davis.

“I am ecstatic to lead the Division of Student Affairs and assist in shaping the student experience for all Mavericks,” Davis said. “I believe student affairs professionals are in the business of changing lives, and I am overjoyed to do this work with a team of committed professionals. As a native of Dallas, coming to UTA is like going home. I have watched the growth and trajectory of UTA for many years and I am excited to work with President Cowley and Provost Brown to continue to move UTA forward. Go Mavericks!”

Davis earned a Bachelor of Arts in English arts–secondary education and a Master of Arts in counseling with emphasis on college student development from Hampton University, and a doctorate in education, leadership and policy studies from Indiana University.

He is expected to assume his role at UTA on July 10.
