FORT WORTH, Texas, August 17, 2023—The Cliburn is pleased to announce the 2023–2024 concert tours of the medalists of the 2022 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition: Yunchan Lim (gold), Anna Geniushene (silver), and Dmytro Choni (bronze).

The Sixteenth Cliburn Competition (held June 2–18, 2022, in Fort Worth, Texas, USA) was a successful embodiment of the Cliburn’s core tenants: enduring commitment to artistic excellence, the discovery of new artists, and the advancement of classical piano music throughout the world. It reached a record-breaking number of people around the globe, exponentially surpassing viewership and online engagement from its past editions. It has now become one of the most-watched classical events in history, with more than 40 million views on Cliburn channels across 177 countries—and immeasurable viral reach beyond that.

And it launched the careers of three extraordinary medalists:

Yunchan Lim

19-year-old pianist Yunchan Lim’s ascent to international stardom has been meteoric. In June 2022, he became the youngest person ever to win gold at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. His Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No. 3, with Marin Alsop and the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra in the Finals, quickly became the most-watched video of that piece of all time and was named one of The New York Times “Best Classical Music Performances of 2022.”

Invitations from the most prestigious concert halls and orchestras immediately followed, including engagements with the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Baltimore Symphony, and Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestras, and Orchestre de Paris; festival appearances at Aspen, Bravo! Vail, and Ravinia; and recitals for Carnegie Hall, Washington Performing Arts at the Kennedy Center, Wigmore Hall, Fondation Louis Vuitton, Suntory Hall, and Seoul Arts Center. As the Evening Standard noted following his Wigmore debut: “We’re at the start of something special.”

Anna Geniushene’s fresh, layered, and powerful interpretations defined her participation at the 2022 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition—and won her the coveted silver medal and the adoration of fans around the globe. And the critics couldn’t get enough: “powerhouse sound, forceful musical personality, and sheer virtuosity…had this critic on the edge of his seat” (Musical America); “a performance of rare devotion and insight” (Onstage NTX); “a fresh version…that had this listener hanging on every bar” (La Scena).

Accolades ensued—Musical America named her Young Artist of the Month in July 2022 and Pianist magazine featured her on the cover in June 2023—and invitations from well-respected institutions followed. Dmytro Choni

Dmytro Choni took home bronze at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in June 2022, only the second Ukrainian pianist to medal at the prestigious contest. He won hearts and accolades with a compelling and colorful musicality that is fortified by a genuine, immediately engaging stage presence. As one critic noted: “Each time he strode onstage, it was with winning confidence and a big smile. He’s clearly an accomplished, assured―and communicative—pro” (Dallas Morning News).

Recent and upcoming highlights include debuts at Wiener Musikverein and the Lucerne Festival; recital tours across Europe, including Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and Palau de la Música in Barcelona; appearances with the Wiener Kammerorchester and Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra; and collaborations with violinists Frank Peter Zimmerman and Josef Špaček and cellist Julian Steckel. His artist-in-residency at Edesche Concertzaal in the Netherlands will feature a series of solo and chamber collaborations. Eager to explore the connection between music and other artforms, Dmytro performs in Wiener Konzerthaus’ Poetry and Music Series, pairing solo piano with André Gide’s Prometheus Illbound.
