Alan Blaylock, district 4 council member, files for District 10

Alan Blaylock, the current District 4 council member, has filed to run in District 10 on Fort Worth’s City Council. Blaylock is the only person who has filed to run for the seat to date. Filing deadline is Feb. 17.

Blaylock must vacate his District 4 seat and run in District 10 after last year’s redistricting changed the district where he lives. While representing District 4, he has been a vocal proponent for increased funding for public safety.

He also ran on a platform of lowering property taxes, which he pushed the council to do in September. Ultimately, the tax rate was lowered, but not as far as he would have liked.

Municipal elections are coming up. Here are some key dates:

Jan. 18: Candidates began filing

Feb. 17: Last day for candidates to file

April 6: Last day to register to vote

April 24: Early voting begins

May 2: Early voting ends

May 6: Election Day

Candidates across all 11 districts will vie for a seat at the dias May 6. Of the nine incumbents, five have filed for reelection so far.

Two districts — 10 and 11 — will be filled for the first time, after the city council passed a redistricting map to establish them.
