Phil Sorrells appoints former judge to district attorney office staff

Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney Phil Sorrells announced an addition to his senior staff today.

Robb Catalano, who has served as the judge of Criminal District Court No. 3 since 2011, has been named First Assistant Criminal District Attorney. He will provide overall management of the department and assist with strategic planning.

“I’m excited to bring someone with Robb’s level of experience and knowledge into the District Attorney’s Office,” Sorrells said. “I want to thank him for his sacrifice in giving up his judgeship to join me and continue serving the citizens of Tarrant County.”

Catalano, a former Tarrant County and federal prosecutor, is a master fellow of the Eldon B. Mahon Inn of Court, a fellow of the Tarrant County Bar Foundation and a chairman of the Tarrant County Juvenile Services Committee.

“The Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office has always been a special place to me,” Catalano said. “I’m truly thankful for my experience on the bench.

“However, the chance to work with this talented group of attorneys and staff is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

Catalano, 52, is a board member for the St. Thomas More Society. He is a previous volunteer for the University Little League in Fort Worth Board of Directors and has served on the Cassata Catholic High School Advisory Council.

Catalano received a bachelor of arts in criminal justice from St. Edward’s University and a juris doctor degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law.

He resigned his judicial post this week and was sworn in at the Criminal District Attorney’s Office. It is now up to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to appoint a judicial replacement.
