Fort Worth Report welcomes new reporter in partnership with Report For America

The Fort Worth Report is excited to announce that its nonprofit newsroom has been selected to host a Report for America journalist this year.

And the Report found her in its own newsroom: Sandra Sadek, who has been a reporting fellow since January, joins the Report as a full-time reporter covering growth in June.

Report for America is a national service program that places talented emerging  journalists into local newsrooms to report on under-covered issues and communities. It is an initiative of The GroundTruth Project, a nonprofit journalism organization.

Sadek and the Fort Worth Report were both chosen to be part of the program through a competitive selection process that started in the fall of 2021. In this cohort, announced May 10, more than 300 journalists will be working in more than 200 newsrooms in all 50 states, plus Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and Guam. More than half of the positions are in nonprofit media organizations, like the Fort Worth Report.

Report for America pays about half of the first year’s salary for the new reporter, and the Fort Worth Report will be responsible for raising the other half through gifts from individuals, businesses and foundations. If you’d like to help support Sadek’s role, you can make a tax-deductible donation here.

“Report for America offers a great, cost-effective partnership that allows us to increase our reporting power and cover important issues that otherwise wouldn’t receive much, if any, coverage,” says Chris Cobler, CEO/Publisher of Fort Worth Report. “Sandra has done a great job as a reporting fellow for us, and we’re excited to see the journalism she’ll produce as our newest reporter covering essential news in Fort Worth.”

In her new role, Sadek will report on growth in fast-growing Fort Worth and Tarrant County, concentrating on economic development, industry, jobs, transportation and other issues that affect the community’s economy and quality of life. With her addition, the Fort Worth Report now employs 11 full-time reporters.

Before joining Fort Worth Report as an intern in January, Sadek reported local news for the Community Impact Newspaper in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and was the interim news editor of The Fort Stockton Pioneer newspaper in West Texas. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a minor in international studies from Texas State University, where she reported for the student paper.
