A Colleyville City Council member has resigned from his position after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence for a second time this year.

George Bond, who was elected to office in 2022, was arrested May 23 by Colleyville Police for a suspected DUI, according to a city news release. He was arrested for the same reason Feb. 14, according to reporting by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram

The Report was unable to reach Bond for comment prior to publication.

His resignation comes at the request of Mayor Bobby Lindamood, according to the release. Lindamood said he was “saddened” by Bond’s arrest but thankful that his actions did not result in harm to himself or others.

“It is my sincere hope that George is able to secure the help necessary to live a happy and healthy life,” Lindamood said in the release. “However, in my opinion, this event has called into question George’s ability to serve as an elected official for our great city.”

Colleyville Police sergeant Dara Nelson said in a text message that Bond was stopped at 3:17 a.m. May 23 in the 1100 block of Cheek Sparger Road for failure to stop at a designated point. After further investigation, he was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Nelson declined to share additional information, as the investigation is ongoing.

Before his election to City Council, he served on the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission, as well as its historic preservation committee. He has lived in Colleyville since 2015, according to the city’s website

The city charter requires council to appoint a replacement for Bond within 30 days rather than hold a special election. Bond’s seat will go up for election when the term ends in May 2025.

City Council will discuss Bond’s resignation at its June 4 meeting, according to the release.
