1. Intro

Ever wondered what city councils actually do? Want to volunteer as a poll watcher but don’t know where to start?
Politics and governmental processes can be intimidating and complicated sometimes. That’s why Fort Worth Report is launching our Government 101 Project series to explain all of this — and more — while answering common questions about local government.
The word “government” often brings to mind laws and policies at the federal level, such as the presidency, the Supreme Court or Congress. Most residents engage with local government much more frequently, simply by using roads, trash pickup services through companies contracted with the city, and running water provided by the Tarrant Regional Water District.
From the ballot box to public utilities, this series explores the many forms government takes at the local level and how it impacts our everyday lives.
Through this series, we want to help locals feel empowered and confident.
