Capturing a photo of his childhood friend, photographer Daniel Sandoval recorded a special moment of one of his friends from elementary school.

Sandoval took graduation photos of his friend Christian Oropeza, a University of North Texas graduate, for his master’s degree.

One image showed Oropeza throwing a Master Pokémon ball to give it the effect of objects moving in motion.

Sandoval was named winner of the Fort Worth Report’s first reader submitted photo contest, “All About Grads,” earning a $50 gift certificate to Cat City Grill for his win. The Report’s current contest features “Cute Cats.”

“He had the good idea of incorporating the Master Pokémon ball in it, it signifies his degree,” Sandoval said.

The master ball is one of the powerful versions of the Poké ball and can capture a Pokémon without fail.

“We used that as a prop and just using that in itself, toward the campus of UNT, happened to be my favorites just because of the Pokémon being incorporated into it,”Sandoval said.

The picture was cool and was a good moment to see his friend achieve his master’s degree, Sandoval said.

“It was important because this was something he had been chasing for a while and when I say he is one of the smartest people I know, he’s one of the smartest,” Sandoval said. “So just being able to capture his accomplishments was something that really meant a lot to me.”
