David Lowe forced state Rep. Stephanie Klick into a runoff election in her bid to once again represent State House District 91.

To prevent a rematch, Klick needed to win at least 50% of the vote plus one. Instead, she fell shy with 48.09% of the vote to Lowe’s 46.10%.

Fellow Republican candidate Teresa Ramirez trailed with 5.82% of the vote and will not be included on the May 28 runoff ballot.

Klick has represented the district that spans Watauga, Richland Hills, North Richland Hills, Haltom City and parts of Fort Worth since winning the seat in 2012.

In 2022, Lowe, the veteran and stay-at-home father, challenged the state representative and registered nurse with the support of the Defend Texas Liberty PAC.

Klick won that contest with about 54% of the vote to Lowe’s nearly 46%.

As the two candidates face a likely rematch this year, Klick has the support of Gov. Greg Abbott, Dade Phelan and Texans for a Responsible Government.

Lowe has support from the Texans United for a Conservative Majority PAC, a spinoff of Defend Texas Liberty, which is backing challengers of legislators who voted to impeach Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Over in District 93, which covers Blue Mound, Haslet and parts of north Fort Worth and Saginaw, the primary contenders for both parties ran uncontested.

State Rep. Nate Schatzline won the seat in the 2022 election and will be the Republican choice in the upcoming general election. On the other side, Perla Bojorquez will move forward as the Democratic nominee.

Likewise, state Rep. Tony Tinderholt ran uncontested in the Republican primary for House District 94, which covers parts of Arlington, Fort Worth, Bedford, Hurst and Euless. He was first elected to the seat in 2014.

This fall he will face Democrat Denise Wilkerson, chair of Arlington mayor’s Women’s Advisory Council and legislative and legal liaison for the Committee on People with Disabilities, who also ran uncontested.

The general election will take place Nov. 5.
